10 Horror Sequels Scrapped For INSANE Reasons
1. Melissa Barrera's Pro-Palestine Social Media Posts - Scream 7 (Original Version)
Though a version of Scream 7 wrapped shooting earlier this year and is currently set to release on February 27th, it's no secret that this will be very, very different from the original plan for the slasher sequel.
Scream 7 was originally intended to be a direct continuation of Scream VI, focused once again on sisters Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) Carpenter, but this all changed in November 2023 when Barrera was fired from the film for making pro-Palestine posts on social media.
This led to Jenna Ortega also exiting the film, leaving franchise producers without the two main stars they'd built this new era of Scream movies around.
And so Scream 7 underwent a creative retooling, with Neve Campbell returning to the franchise as original heroine Sydney Prescott after sitting out Scream VI due to a pay dispute.
Naturally there remains considerable skepticism about this revamped version of the movie, not least because large swaths of the fanbase view Barrera's dismissal from the franchise as wholly unreasonable.
