10 Horror Sequels Scrapped For INSANE Reasons

2. COVID Production Costs - Truth Or Dare 2

Terrible though 2018's Truth or Dare was, it also made $95.3 million on a $3.5 million budget, and so it was just assumed that Blumhouse would rush a sequel into production to print some easy money.

Yet seven years later we bizarrely still don't have Truth or Dare 2, the reason for which was revealed last year by original director Jeff Wadlow.

Wadlow stated that Blumhouse actually greenlit a Truth or Dare sequel at the start of the pandemic, with the plan being for the cast and crew to quarantine together in a hotel on the Universal lot and shoot the film in one of the lot's cabin sets.

Though Wadlow began prepping the film, the plans were ultimately scrapped when Blumhouse realised that they'd effectively have to pay the cast and crew overtime to remain quarantined on the Universal lot for the entire shoot.

Given that Blumhouse's entire model is centered around keeping budgets as low as possible, it evidently didn't make financial sense for them, and so Truth or Dare 2 was cancelled.

When asked about the prospect of a sequel happening in 2024, Wadlow was adamant that too much time has passed.
