Any horror fan worth their salt credits Goosebumps for sparking their interest in the genre as a child.

It’s absolutely iconic and actually packs some real spine-chilling scares, which haunted the dreams of every child who saw it. The Ghastly Grinner is easily one of the scariest horror villains ever – Art the Clown would cower before this menace.

One of the cleverest episodes took place in Season One and aired in 1995. It follows a fairly standard story for the show: girl sees monster, girl spooked by monster, girl tells disbelieving parents about monster. All pretty straightforward stuff.

The monster in question is her librarian, who protagonist Lucy sees transform into a monstrous creature who eats bugs. To try and quash her fears, her parents invite the man to dinner, unknowingly welcoming the beast into their home. You think you know where this is going, especially when the librarian asks what he’ll be having to for dinner. Her parents respond in a very odd way: the librarian is on the menu!

Suddenly, the two adults grow sharp !*$% and transform into creatures themselves, devouring the librarian. Then, they turn to Lucy and her brother and tell the two children that soon, their training fangs will grow and they’ll be able to join in. It’s such a clever and darkly comedic twist that came out of nowhere, making viewers want to immediately rewatch the episode.
