10 Horror Video Games That Turned 20 In 2022
5. Clock Tower 3
Survival horror game Clock Tower 3 stands out from many of its contemporaries thanks to a distinct visual style, ahead of its time graphics and the kind of thorough script treatment that most video games do not enjoy the benefits of. But that doesn't mean it's perfect.
Despite its title, it is actually the fourth instalment of the series, although the game has little to no connection with the previous games anyway. The story follows Alyssa Hamilton, the next in a long line of female warriors destined to travel through time in order to defeat the spirits of evil.
Alyssa journeys back to 1940s and 1960s London to defeat the so-called Entities and bring them peace, and players must work to evade her ghostly pursuers without the aid of weapons.
Co-produced by Capcom and Sunsoft, Clock Tower 3 hit the PS2 in 2002, and moved things away from the point-and-click format employed in previous games towards having direct control over the protagonist. Wins like this, however, were overshadowed by the game's relatively short length and the fact that its marketing campaign simply didn't penetrate far enough, leading it to become a commercial failure.
