10 Huge Movie Returns Nobody Ever Expected (THAT ARE FINALLY HAPPENING!)

A few years after Sylvester Stallone brought his first stints as the iconic Rocky Balboa and John Rambo to an end, 1993 saw the action megastar trade those boxing gloves and rifles for mountain-climbing gear as he took on the role of Ranger Gabriel Walker in Cliffhanger.

And with that rock-climbing adventure that involved Sly taking on a group of international thieves amidst the cliffs ultimately being a bit of a hit in theatres, TriStar naturally began planning a follow-up in 1994.

Unfortunately for those hanging onto the hope of one day seeing Sly once again launching himself off cliffs and whooping ass amongst the rocks, though, that potential sequel remained in development hell for decades before a female-led reimagining looked to be picking up steam in 2019 (via Deadline).

However, in a move that caught just about everyone off guard, not only was a direct Cliffhanger legacy sequel finally made official in May, but Stallone appearing again as Walker was also announced (via Deadline).

This flick will see Walker and his daughter running a mountaineering company in the Alps. Tragedy then inevitably strikes, and the two will also have to deal with a bunch of "nefarious bad guys" as "all hell breaks loose", according to director Ric Roman Waugh (via Collider).

So, after thirty long years, it looks like the next chapter in Walker's story is finally crawling out of development hell.
