10 Implications For The Success And Failure Of Batman V Superman
9. It's In A Bad Place Right Now
Warner Bros. may not be willing to abandon their DC plans, but that doesn't mean this film was a success for them.
With one of the biggest budgets ever, this film is looking like it'll miss the $1 billion mark and is on track to make a smaller profit than Man of Steel. Such failure shows it wasn't just the critics who took issue with the film. The film’s Cinemascore sits at a B. That may not seem so bad, but it’s lower than Man Of Steel, the entire Dark Knight trilogy and every MCU film to date. Will audiences show up for the subsequent DC films if this is the quality that should be expected?
While the filmmakers will no doubt try to make a better film next time around, this one has already done quite a bit of damage to the rest of the universe. All that foreshadowing didn't add much and now future entries have to abide by rules that were set in place by a deeply flawed film.
They have a lot of cleaning up to do before they can get general audiences back on their side again.
