Many would agree that the highlight of the film was Wonder Woman. That might be a disappointment for a movie called Batman V Superman, but it suggests promise for the future.

While her motivations in the film itself were a bit lacklustre, Gal Gadot nicely embodied the role and seemed to be one of the few people who was enjoying themselves. Snyder also did a great job of translating her comic book look into a believable real-life appearance. And that theme song was great.

It’s impressive enough that she made such an impact with very minimal screen time, but she did so while also making audiences eager to see what she can bring in her own film; compared to Flash or Aquaman, the elements of her standalone adventure were better seeded, making next year's World War I epic a much more intriguing sell.

Suicide Squad has potential to be a big success, but it’s far enough removed from the Justice League shenanigans that it can stand on its own. The real test will be Wonder Woman. Her big screen adventure has been long overdue and, unlike Batman and Superman, she's quite likeable in this universe. If Patty Jenkins can pull off her solo film, she could be the DC universe's saving grace.
