10 Implications For The Success And Failure Of Batman V Superman
7. A Kevin Feige Is Needed
DC learned the hard way that shaping a connected universe is no easy task. One wobbly piece can bring the whole thing down, and they've tried to build so fast they failed to notice their base is about to topple.
Without trying to start a Marvel/DC brawl, these rookies could learn something from the old pros. Say what you will about the MCU, but you cannot deny that they have a solid plan. And the man with that plan is Kevin Feige.
Though filmmakers like Joss Whedon and the Russo Brothers are very important to the MCU, Feige is invaluable, and he possesses one attribute that is key to the MCU's success and something that's lacking in the DCEU; patience.
Although films like Iron Man 2 and Age Of Ultron pushed for too much, the MCU has been built gradually and earned its big payoff moments like the Avengers assembling to save New York. Feige understands that a film can serve the bigger picture while being its own thing and, on a bigger scale, gets what makes audiences root for these heroes. Both of those are problems Batman V Superman struggled with.
The DCEU has tried to distance themselves from the MCU, but they're using their proven template without understanding what makes it work. A visionary with patience is needed to steer the ship, otherwise the whole thing could be lost at sea.
