10 Implications For The Success And Failure Of Batman V Superman
2. Marvel Holds The Throne
There is a strange animosity between Marvel and DC fans; they seem to be under the impression that for one cinematic universe to succeed, the other must fail. Marvel has lead the way in superhero films ever since Phase 1, much to the chagrin of DC loyalists, and thus Batman V Superman was supposed to be the film to knock it off its perch.
Ignoring how a strong marketplace is built on competition, it's worth pointing out that Marvel is the champ for a reason.
The MCU has never been stronger than it is right now, and as much as the DCEU offered something new, there's no stopping the Marvel train. Captain America: Civil War may be their most anticipated film to date, so much so that Batman V Superman changed release dates to avoid it. They are slowly building towards the epic Avengers two-parter in 2018/19 and their future looks bright, with the established icons being joined by such new characters as Black Panther, Doctor Strange and, of course, Spider-Man.
The MCU is not perfect by any means. They've stumbled multiple times, but have alway learned from mistakes and made their formula even better. At this point, they've built such strong foundation that a misfire like Batman V Superman would be little more than an unfortunate bump in a very long road.
