10 Improvised Movie Moments That Made The Film Much Better

6. Harrison Ford Refuses To Use George Lucas's Lines

Then there are the times when Hollywood's biggest grumpus did know what was best for the film. He was a relative unknown when he was cast as Han Solo, the charmingly douchey space smuggler in Star Wars - Kurt Russell was originally in line to play the character - but he absolutely stole the show, immediately getting what was cool about him. What's cool about Star Wars is a concept that appears to have eluded George Lucas ever since he created the damn franchise, which became evident in the prequels when he was afforded full creative control (i.e. there was nobody to tell him that nobody cared about interstellar tax laws or the detailed background of The Force). One scene specifically became an iconic one for the character and the franchise through improv. Han Solo is about to get encased in carbonite, Princess Leia admits that she loves him, to which he responds, €œI know€. The script was way more traditional, causing Ford to opine: €œYou can write this sh*t George, but you sure can't say it€, before improvising the better line on camera.
