10 Incredibly Bleak Recent Movie Endings

Some endings may seem on the surface like happy ones. The good guys won, the bad guys lost, the children that were being held captive by a super creepy witch were freed, ran her down, and literally ripped her to pieces without a second thought or a shred of remorse. Things like that.

The latter is of course Weapons, where Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan) was ultimately foiled and killed by the very children she took to preserve her own life. On paper, it's a great ending, with one of the most satisfying death scenes of the year.

However, all that got torn to pieces with just a few sentences of voiceover at the very end. Yes, the children had been found and returned to their families and their homes, but what does the lasting damage of something that traumatic look like?

Well, the fact that some kids even started speaking again, suggests that more didn't, and when paired with the opening monologue that told of the children never returning, obviously referring to their mental state rather than physical, the initial elation at seeing Gladys' comeuppance kind of wilts away.
