10 Infamous Failed Blockbusters That Cost Obscene Money

3. Justice League

Cutthroat Island
Warner Bros.

By the time Zack Snyder puts the finishing touches on his reassembled version of Justice League that will be arriving exclusively on HBO Max next year, Warner Bros. will have funneled well over half a billion dollars into the DCEU's all-star team-up without seeing a single penny of profit.

Once Joss Whedon replaced Snyder behind the camera and re-shot huge swathes of the movie, the basic production costs for Justice League shot up to $300m, before the studio splurged another $150m on the marketing blitz, keeping their fingers crossed the whole time that this would be their answer to the MCU's all-conquering Avengers.

It wasn't, because the movie was terrible and managed to alienate both fans and general audiences alike, and turned out to be such a costly endeavor that a box office haul of over $650m still left Warner Bros. in the red.

The Snyder Cut might turn out to be vastly superior take on the material that results in a huge surge in subscribers for HBO Max, but there's still a long way to go before Justice League starts making them any money at all.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
