As mentioned earlier in this article, there comes a time when every comedian decides whether to stick with the brand that made their name or venture into uncharted territory, and with his 40th birthday fast approaching Seth Rogen will soon be forced to make the call.

As an actor, his output has largely played on his reputation as Hollywood's lovable schlub, but as a creative mind Rogen has shown a lot more of a willingness to take chances on risky material. Alongside regular collaborator Evan Goldberg, Rogen steered controversial graphic novel Preacher out of development hell and onto the small screen, and also played a key role in the development of Amazon's The Boys.

Sure, he's branched out from his beginnings in gross-out fare to different variations on the studio comedy template, but his performance in Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs hinted that there's a brilliant actor underneath waiting for the right opportunity to come along.

I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
