10 Insane Alternate Endings To 2017's Biggest Movies (So Far)

5. Kevin Plans To Terrorise A School - Split

Split, M. Night Shyamalan's best film in ages, saw James McAvoy playing a killer with 23 distinct personalities, and aside from being a showcase for the actor's talents, it was a pretty fun ride from start to finish. Not to mention that it had an absolutely insane ending which saw Bruce Willis appearing as David Dunn, his character from Unbreakable, revealing that Split is set in the same freakin' world.

So whilst in the existing version of Split the movie ends with McAvoy's deranged character Kevin staring into a mirror prepping himself for what's to come, an alternate ending - glimpsed on the Blu-Ray release, if you're interested - would have seen the nutty villain looking down from a rooftop at a school, with his various personality incarnations saying: "Look at all those unbroken souls. Such a waste."

Shyamalan ultimately jettisoned this ending, citing it as "just too dark. It kind of made it feel one-note for me, about what his intentions were. What is his motivation? I just didn't want The Beast's motivations to be reduced to just kind of killing."

It makes sense, especially since it might not have made for an easy transition into the next movie in the series. Yes, the sequel to Unbreakable, Glass, in which Kevin goes up against David Dunn and also starring Samuel L. Jackson, is on its way.
