10 Insane Over The Top Horror Movies

9. Zombeavers (2014)

Prisoners of the Ghostland
Freestyle Releasing/Epic Pictures

Creature feature films have given audiences everything from the iconic likes of Jaws and Tremors, to the bizarrely silly likes of Slugs and Night of the Lepus. Even sheep were turned into horrifying monsters in New Zealand comedy-horror Black Sheep. Out of all these creature features, none have quite managed to be as enjoyably trashy as the fantastically named Zombeavers.

A film that proudly indulges in all the familiar lowbrow horror tropes, this flick sees a group of college students head out to a lakeside cabin for what they hope will be a weekend of fun. However, their idyllic getaway soon descends into a struggle for survival when they’re besieged by the local beaver population that have been infected by toxic waste.

Zombeavers knows exactly what it is and never tries to be anything else. It’s a goofy and gory ride that contains better performances than a film with this title deserves. But the highlight of this flick is the undead beavers themselves.

While these animatronic critters are never supposed to be especially terrifying or disgusting, the creative means in which filmmaker Justin Rubins deploys them gives his feature debut a ton of personality.
