10 Insane Things In Massive Movies (That Everyone Just Ignores)
2. The Hobbit - Why Are Thorin, Fili And Kili So Handsome?
Throughout the entire Lord Of The Rings mythos Dwarves have always been described in a consistent manner: Long hair, bearded, large noses and short. When the Dwarves begin arriving to Bilbos house we are shown multiple prime examples of the Dwarvish gene. There is considerable variation and some look more true to how they should look than others, but all are believable as being Dwarves.
Enter Fili, Kili and Thorin, looking more like short Humans, or at least tall Hobbits. Fili and Thorin at least seem to be wearing nose prosthetics to make them appear more Dwarf-like, but Fili just looks like a younger version of Aragorn. He looks nothing like a Dwarf of any description throughout the entire series of movies and literature, and makes you wonder if this was done to make the unneeccesary love story with elf Taureil more believable.
This was almost certainly done due to actor John Rhys Davies nightmarish experience of the prosthetics required to make him look like Gimli, however it would have been far more seamless to have made all members of the group at least match. Either all of them should look like Dwarves or none of them should, either way be consistent.
