10 Insanely Intense Films Any Horror Fan MUST See
5. Cannibal Holocaust
Horror buffs will know that Eli Roth’s Green Inferno is an homage to Italian director Ruggero Deodato’s 1980 cannibal masterpiece Cannibal Holocaust. But why bother with the watered-down tribute when the real thing is still one of the most intense and shocking films ever made?
Again, the plot is simple: some filmmakers go into the jungle, and they don’t come back. Their footage is found, and the horrifying recordings solve the mystery of their disappearance. Predating The Blair Witch Project by nearly twenty years, this is the original found footage film.
And again, controversies abound. The film features unsimulated animal cruelty, and at least one of the film’s murder scenes is so convincing that Deodato was charged with murder – in addition to being charged with obscenity due to the film’s incredibly graphic violence.
Essential – but handle with caution!
