10 Intriguing Movie Roles Matt Smith Should Play

5. Indiana Jones

Doctor Who Matt Smith
BBC

Bear with us on this one! Though not immediately apparent as a candidate for the archaeologist-cum-adventurer extraordinaire, there are compelling reasons why Matt Smith should be considered by Lucasfilm when putting together their recently announced reboot of this well-loved worldwide institution.

Firstly, Harrison Ford was great. So great that he can't be replaced. So producers should be looking for someone very different. Ford looked great when covered in sweat, clutching his bullwhip and adjusting his fedora. Yet Indy also led a double life as an academic, donning spectacles to teach at universities and being mooned over by school girls. The idea this rugged action hero suddenly went all bookish became a fun feature of the original franchise, but arguably was never the most convincing element.

Smith's Doctor constantly carried the air of a young professor about him and it would be entertaining to see this type of genuinely geeky-looking bloke suddenly strip to the waist and start swinging through jungles. The ample sequences available of the actor baring all in various productions has revealed this man is no slouch when it comes to working out. He'd make a great Doctor Jones as he'd flesh out both the devil-may-care and dusty sides of the role.
