10 Legacy Sequel Movies Everyone Actually Wants To See
4. 28 Years Later
Ever since the release of 28 Days Later's surprisingly solid sequel 28 Weeks Later, fans have been wondering when Danny Boyle and company would get around to making a third film, tentatively titled 28 Months Later.
The project has been in the works since before 28 Weeks Later was released in 2007 though has effectively entered development hell, despite attempts by original director Boyle and writer Alex Garland to get the ball rolling as recently as 2019.
But considering how much time has passed, it'll soon enough make sense for the third film to be reimagined as 28 Years Later.
The original film was released 20 years ago in 2002, and so if Boyle and Garland wait it out for a few more years, it'd be fitting to release the third film in 2030 - 28 years after the first came out.
Cillian Murphy and Imogen Poots - who starred in the first and second films respectively - have both stated their enthusiasm for a third film which brings their disparate characters together, so we can only hope everything eventually slots in place.
It's certainly possible, though given the relatively modest commercial success of 28 Weeks Later, financiers might feel that it's too niche a property to get the legacy sequel treatment.
