10 Lesser Known Sci-Fi Movies That You Need To See

8. The Girl With All The Gifts

A sci-fi/zombie survival horror outing, The Girl with All the Gifts is about a young girl who survives the outbreak of a fungal infection that turns humanity into horrible, flesh-eating creatures.

Wonder where they got that idea from... *cough* The Last of Us *cough*.

Where Melanie, the protagonist played by Sennia Nanua, differs from Ellie is that she's got special powers. Well, sort of. Her "powers" are that she is infected with the virus and craves human meat, but she is still sentient and mostly acts like a normal person.

Like Ellie, Melanie is seen as a potential cure for the infection. The film's narrative plays out around a group of survivors trying to protect her so she can be used for research.

This movie might seem like a hodgepodge of different ideas - 28 Days Later, The Walking Dead, The Last of Us (did we mention that one already?) - but it still feels unique.

The twist of Melanie being aware of her own condition adds another edge to the ethical dilemma facing the survivors and great performances from Nanua, Gemma Arteton, and Paddy Considine prove that the girl isn't the only one with gifts.
