Ben Stiller doesnt get behind the camera that often, but when he does, he strikes gold. Boasting an amazing ensemble, with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jack Black topping the cast alongside Stiller himself, the action-comedy is one of Stillers best films so far, directing or otherwise. Parodying tropes of the industry itself, using the film-within-a-film device to great effect, Tropic Thunder just works on so many levels. Nobody (in the world of the film) is expecting these guys to come out of there alive theyre a bunch of actors who find themselves in essence in a hot warzone. Its comedy genius, and Downey, Jrs method-acting, skin pigmentation-altering Kirk Lazarus is the greatest part of all. Its crazy to think this came out in the same year as Iron Man, at a time when RDJs career was doing great, but was nothing like the meteoric success hes had since the MCU began. It went on to earn him his second Oscar nod and a place amongst his most memorable performances yet.
Movie / TV enthusiast with a DVD and Blu-ray collection bigger than I'd care to admit. If anyone is offering creative / furniture solutions to house them, I'm all ears.
