10 Low Budget Hits Of The Past Decade

1. Chronicle (2012)

Budget: $12,000,000. Worldwide Box Office: $126,636,097

Chronicle was a 2012 science fiction film, with Josh Trank in his directorial debut. The plot focuses in on three high school seniors who develop telekinetic powers after becoming involved in an unknown project. The story uses the moral perspective between the three protagonists well and their individual responses to how to deal with their newly developed powers is contrasting, and thus intriguing to the audience. While the film came in the centre of a plethora of found footage films, such as Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside, what defined it were its fast paced action, quick witted script and intriguing premise that drew audiences in. The main surprise of the film€™s success is that it comes from a relatively new director featuring an unknown cast of actors, something that stands the film out above the other hits of 2012. With the film€™s production budget set at $12 million, good critical response and a developed word of mouth allowed the film to gain an exceptional $126 million worldwide.
