10 Major Thoughts Coming Out Of Avengers: Infinity War
2. Do We Really Believe That Ending?
In what was an unprecedented move for the usually happy-go-lucky Marvel Studios, Infinity War ended on a massive downer that seemingly erased a huge number of fan favorite characters in one click of the Infinity Gauntlet. But are we really buying it?
Sure, it shocks the audience and creates some genuinely emotional moments, but does anyone really believe that the likes of Black Panther, Spider-Man and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy have really bitten the dust?
For one thing, Black Panther is the highest-grossing MCU ever that doesn't feature Iron Man, and became a cultural phenomenon in the process. The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel starts shooting in a matter of months to meet a July 2019 release date, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for 2020 despite Rocket being the only surviving member by the time Infinity War fades to black.
If most of these characters are brought back to life by the end of the next movie, then it could be seen as a real cop-out unless the narrative can explain it in a convinving fashion. There's literally no way that Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and the Guardians are gone for good, and it would be a real missteo by the creative team (not to mention an insult to the fans) if it simply gets retconned without good reason.
