10 Marvel Cinematic Universe Surprises The Trailers Ruined
6. Spider-Man: Homecoming - Iron Man Saves The Day
In a move Thor: Ragnarok stole straight out of its playbook, Spider-Man: Homecoming spoiled all but its last five minutes with its trailers, and it's not like anyone was expecting the Vulture to emerge victorious at the end.
From the footage that was released in advance, it could be gleamed that a fledgling Peter Parker wants to be an Avenger, he battles the Vulture against mentor Iron Man's wishes and has his high-tech suit confiscated for his efforts, only to continue fighting crime in a DIY costume and setting up a redemptive rematch with the villain.
That's the majority of the narrative leading into the final act in a nutshell, but there are also specific spoilers the trailer should have cut out, like the ferry set piece.
Teasing this sequence would have been fine - blockbuster movies should always show fleeting glimpses of their biggest action scenes in the trailers - but Homecoming went one further and revealed how the whole thing played out.
Seeing Iron Man soar in and save the day in advance only killed the sense of jeopardy when it came to the disaster unfolding in the cinematic cut.
