10 Marvel Villains For Phase 4 (And Who Should Play Them)

5. Dormammu (Joaquin Phoenix)

Another classic villain created by Stan Lee and Steve Dikto, Dormammu is a recurring foe for Doctor Strange, who ruled an alternate dimension as a demonic despot before heading to the regular Marvel Comics universe looking for trouble. Black, red, and with a big fiery head, Dormammu€™s iconic appearance could look wonderful on the big screen, as long as the special effects are up to snuff. He€™s also immensely intelligent, and thought to be one of the most powerful maniacal mystics in Marvel history. He can even meddle with Odin€™s spells against his will. Indeed, bringing in a ghastly godlike villain like Dormammu could be Marvel€™s way to up the ante for Benedict Cumberbatch€™s Sorcerer Supreme after his introduction in Phase 3. Dormammu€™s schemes tend to involve global destruction, which could be a real challenge for Stephen Strange. To succeed in introducing Dormammu, Marvel would need an actor with the gravitas to act alongside Cumberbatch and enough capacity for menacing mania to really feel like a threat. The talented Mr Joaquin Phoenix €“ well versed in the serious and the silly €“ could sizzle in the CGI-assisted role.
