8. NOT Introducing Vanessa's Superhero Alter-Ego Copycat - Deadpool 2

What Should've Happened

After Deadpool's (Ryan Reynolds) girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) spent the majority of the first movie doing a whole lotta nothing beyond being a damsel-in-distress, fans quite rightly hoped that she'd get a stronger showing in the sequel.

Moreover, expectations were high that Vanessa would adopt her shape-shifting superhero persona from the comics, Copycat.

It certainly would've required some narrative fudging to make Vanessa a mutant, but it's surely better than just having her get kidnapped again, right?

And it's definitely better than just killing her, right?

What Actually Happened

Because Baccarin had scheduling conflicts with her commitments to the TV show Gotham, she could only shoot an extended cameo role for Deadpool 2, resulting in her being killed off early in the first act.

Yes, after being largely helpless in the first film, Vanessa gets fridged and spends almost the entirety of the second movie in the ground, before time travel shenanigans slightly soften the blow by resurrecting her at the end.

The practicalities of scheduling aside, it was a disappointing move for a female character with so much potential - and the fact that the Once Upon a Deadpool re-edit even drew attention to how lame it was only made it that much more infuriating.

Fingers are crossed that whenever a third Deadpool movie comes together, Copycat finally emerges.
