10 MCU Storylines We’ll Never Get Closure On
5. There Are Two Iron Fists Now… Right?
Following the events of Iron Fist season two, Danny Rand is no longer the Iron Fist - he passed that power and that responsibility onto his ex-girlfriend Colleen Wing, who it was discovered is a descendant of the first female Iron Fist: Wu Ao-Shi, the Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay. That in turn may mean that she was destined to be the true Living Weapon of K’un-Lun all along.
Instead, Rand’s search for the mysterious Orson Randall has allowed him to acquire twin pistols that seem to have similar chi-based powers to the Iron Fist, allowing him to bend bullets a la Wanted.
One would imagine that this is where season three of the show was going to go: with a new, female Iron Fist dedicated to that specifically oriental mythology - without the awkward baggage of cultural appropriation attached to it - while Rand returned with some badass moves of his own, possibly under a new identity.
One would have to imagine, because of course Netflix cancelled the Iron Fist series in October last year, and there are currently no plans to bring it back. Even if there were, Finn Jones is now the lead on Fox’s brand new profiler show Prodigal Son, while Jessica Henwick has no less than four major feature films coming out in the next eighteen months.
It’s safe (and sad) to say that that final shot of Colleen Wing and her glowing katana is the last we’ll ever see of a female Iron Fist in the MCU.
