3. When The Blob Committed Cannibalism
The Offending Comics: Ultimatum miniseries (2009)
Ultimatum’s five-issue run was basically a messy killing off spree from start to finish, beginning with a tsunami that hits New York City and kills millions of people and featuring the deaths of many a fan favourite including Wolverine who has his skeleton blown to pieces by Magneto and Doctor Strange who has his head exploded by Dormammu.
But the death that shocked readers the most was the Wasp’s. After drowning in the tsunami her body is discovered by the Blob (whose super power seems to be obesity) who for reasons unknown to anyone in their right mind decides to cannibalise Wasp’s corpse all the while remarking that she “tastes like chicken.” Lovely.
Hank Pym aka Yellowjacket in giant form does then bite off the Blob’s head out of revenge so at least there’s some kind of retribution for Wasp’s gruesome demise. Perhaps unsurprisingly this series was penned by Jeph Loeb, the same guy behind the Maximoff twins’ incest plotline. Cannibalism and twincest? What is wrong with you, Loeb?
