10 Misleading Movie Trailers That Scared You Off Amazing Movies

2. Drive

What The Trailer Sold You:

He's a Hollywood stunt driver when the suns out, and a getaway driver with the guns out. It's not quite to the level of a Fast & Furious flick, but these quick clips subliminally inject words like "action-packed" and "high adrenaline" and "COME AT ME BRO" (probably) into the trailer's DNA. If you'd already had your fill of Vin Diesel, this likely wasn't on your radar.

What You Missed:

First off, it seems that the editors took every single line of dialogue from Ryan Gosling and put it in the trailer, wholly betraying his character's quiet, contemplative nature. And make no mistake, this is a character-driven story first, and a dark action-thriller second.

Unlike the more chase-heavy Fast & Furious franchise, Drive is a slow burning noir that cares more about the protagonist's motivations than whether they can squeeze a close-up of an engine into the scene.

It's closer to a film like The Bourne Supremacy, except with a much darker, psychological bent and an unflinching dedication to keeping the extreme violence in frame. You don't have to turn off your brain to enjoy the action scenes, and you won't hear a single "brah" or "bro" uttered during the 100-minute runtime.
