10 Moments That Ruined Amazing Movie Scenes
1. The Dragonzord Roar - The Babadook

It goes without saying that sound is just as important as visuals in any movie, and while The Babadook is generally a masterclass in anxiety-riddled suspense, a late scene is absolutely derailed by a sound design mishap.
Near the very end of the film as protagonist Amelia (Essie Davis) comes face to face with the title creature, it lets out a roar that will be familiar to just about anyone who grew up in the 1990s.
The distinctive roar was featured in a bevy of popular '90s media - namely for the Dragonzord in Power Rangers, and Motaro in the video game Mortal Kombat 3.
While it's impossible for a filmmaker to be au fait with every last sliver of sound design in their own movie, it's staggeringly lazy for the sound team to recycle such an overused stock effect for the Babadook.
Even if the team didn't have the time to create a new sound from scratch, could they not have tinkered with the existing sound to transform it somewhat, rather than just using it from the sound library straight out of the box?
For anyone who's heard the sound before, it'll immediately take you out of the movie to hear it invoked here.
