10 Monster Movies To Watch In 2017
6. War For The Planet Of The Apes
“If you see the film, notice how the ending is no ending,” remarked the San Francisco Chronicle about Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. “It seems like the writers have really dug themselves a hole for next time.”
If you felt that Dawn fumbled the ball and didn’t really expand the universe, it was still a gigantic hit, taking over $200 million more than its predecessor, so expect Twentieth Century Fox to throw everything they’ve got into this sequel, if only to justify the title.
The trailer leads you to expect the mother of all conflicts, with Caesar and his apes threatening to strike back against the humans before they can “finish us off.” The human contingent is led by Woody Harrelson (in full Natural Born Killers mode) whose Colonel inflicts huge losses upon the apes, setting up an epic battle.
We’ll find out if the film makes good on its promises on July 14.
