10 More Amazing Roles Ruined By Terrible Acting

4. Various Lions - The Lion King Remake

While 2019's "live-action" remake of the beloved Disney classic that is The Lion King definitely proved to be a huge financial success for the House of Mouse, and still boasted the moving tunes you love, you'll struggle to find many who felt this billion-dollar picture held a candle to the animated OG.

The visual effects work required to digitally create a bunch of realistic-looking wild animals was impressive, sure, but that also made for a rather soulless two hours, with these photo-realistic creatures not being able to emote quite like the original versions of the iconic characters.

What also didn't help, though, were the rather flat, odd, or just uninspired vocal performances produced by some of the all-star cast brought in to play the legendary lions in particular.

While the younger versions of Simba and Nala (JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph) definitely breathe some much-needed life into the roles, the same cannot be said for a Donald Glover and Beyonce who - despite inevitably crushing it in their musical moments - constantly sound painfully uninterested and emotionless when acting as the runaway son of Mufasa and his childhood pal/eventual queen respectively.

And while you can certainly see what he was going for, Chiwetel Ejiofor's super serious take on Scar lacked a lot of the charisma and campiness that made the character such a villainous icon in the first place.

In general, a lot of the vocal performances were devoid of the sort of expressiveness and energy needed to really enhance a remake that couldn't rely on vivid animation this time around.

It seems only Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen really understood the assignment in the end, though, with their wonderfully delivered quips and exchanges as Timon and Pumba thankfully managing to brighten up the second half of this wildlife safari.
