10 More Awesome Movies That Didn't Deserve To Bomb
8. Dredd
On paper, 2012's Dredd should've been an easy box office success - it received strong reviews from critics and Judge Dredd fans alike, and with a modest budget of just $45 million, it only needed to gross slightly north of $100 million to be deemed a hit.
But Dredd's run ended up topping out at a brutal $41.5 million - a disastrous result which suggests audiences either rejected the film outright or simply weren't aware of it.
Many analysts pointed to the film's poor marketing, which failed to sell the movie's intense action or hypnotic visuals to audiences. Plus, releasing the film in cinemas under the title "Dredd 3D" made it seem like just another gimmicky 3D movie without any substance.
It's also impossible to ignore the rather niche nature of Judge Dredd as an IP, and the considerable stink caused by 1995's maligned Sylvester Stallone-starring adaptation, which this new take failed to sufficiently distance itself from.
Though Dredd did find an audience on home video, it ultimately wasn't enough to secure a greenlight for a planned sequel, making this one of the most maddening box office flops of the last 15 years.
