9. Beatress Johnson - American Mary

From the Twisted Twins - aka Jen and Sylvia Soka - 2012's American Mary tells the story of medical student-turned-body modification specialist Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle). Desperate for money to help with her school fees, Mary winds up taking a job at a strip club, but her budding surgical career immediately sees her called to hand to save one of the dodgy owner of the club's friends. From there, school is out, and Mary is very much in the body-mod game.

As part of this tale, Mary becomes friends with Beatress, one of the dancers at the club and someone who has undergone multiple surgeries in order to get an appearance similar to Betty Boop. And while American Mary is a dark and gory picture for the most part, Beatress is a breath of fresh air, bringing a lightness and warmth to proceedings and throwing out some fantastic, expletive-laden one-liners.

Completely unrecognisable, it's Sokas regular Tristan Risk under the Beatress make-up, and Risk's delivery and sheer presence so often steals the show whenever Beatress is on-screen. And much like pretty much everyone else involved in American Mary, things end in pretty brutal fashion for poor B.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic.
