In Black Swan, gifted ballerina Nina is cast in a major production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. Desperate for validation and stardom, Nina obsesses over the show, causing her to lose her grip on reality.

Now, it's obvious Nina is deeply frustrated, since she's regularly antagonised by her mother, teacher, and competitors. And when she hallucinates feathers on her back, it's impossible not to notice Nina's descent into madness.

However, there are a couple of references that Nina is losing her mind which are much more subtle. While Lily, Thomas, and Nina are dancing at a nightclub, some viewers thought they saw something strange, but couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.

If you had this feeling, there's a good reason why. Throughout this sequence, there are various manipulated images, depicting duplicates of Nina and the other dancers in the background. In fact, some of them are wearing their Swan Lake costumes.

Unfortunately, the scene changes every frame, so the audience won't pick up on it on a conscious level. Nevertheless, many viewers watching this scene will be adamant their eyes were playing tricks on them.
