10 MORE Horror Movies That Will Make You Say WTF Did I Just Watch?
4. Crimes Of The Future
Thanks to films like The Fly and Videodrome, David Cronenberg is hailed as a pioneer in body-horror. After taking a break from the genre for over 20 years, the Canadian director returned with a new body-horror in 2022 called Crimes of the Future. After watching a few minutes of this dystopia thriller, it's obvious Cronenberg hasn't lost his touch.
When a performance artist called Saul Tenser discovers he routinely sprout new organs, he finds himself in the centre of an ongoing conflict. As can be expected, Crimes of the Future explores various Cronenbergian trademarks, including government conspiracies, policing the masses, and accepting the new flesh.
Even though the story makes social commentaries in intriguing ways, it's still really, really weird. People are publicly sliced open as a source of entertainment. Humans parade around with sown up body parts and grafted-on organs. Furniture is composed of teeth, spines, and alien-like appendages, as a constant reminder of how distorted humanity has become.
David Cronenberg has had many crazed ideas through his career, but Crimes of the Future might be the most out-there one yet.
