10 More Insane Reasons Actors Didn't Return For Sequels
5. Crispin Glover Wanted $1 Million To Appear - Back To The Future Part II
It is not uncommon for an outstanding film to be followed up by a sequel that just doesn't live up to what came before it. In fact, you could argue that this happens more often than not, and it's not just audiences that experience this.
According to Back to the Future co-writer and co-producer Bob Gale, after appearing in the original as Marty McFly's father, George, Crispin Glover read the sequel's script and was utterly unhappy with it. So much so that he demanded $1 million to appear.
This is insane from a 20-year-old supporting actor, and unsurprisingly the studio rejected his demand and brought Jeffrey Weissman in to replace him instead. However, as is often the case with these kinds of disputes, this is only one side of the story.
Crispin Glover himself has claimed that he always hated how the original movie saw the McFlys get rich, and disagreed with the morals of the story. This apparently led to friction between the actor and the director, Robert Zemeckis. Either way, whether because of a ridiculously high pay demand, or because he disliked what happened to Marty and his family at the end of the film, it's a mad reason not to return to the sequel of such a successful hit.
