10 More Out Of Place Scenes In Horror Movie History
6. The Flute Scene - Alien: Covenant
Michael Fassbender has been the highlight of the Alien prequels and has embodied the role of villainous android David with an unsettling ease.
In the second prequel, Alien: Covenant, the actor pulls double duty as Walter, another android who serves as David's polar opposite. It's a great performance, but one sequence in the film intended to be serious led to reactions Ridley Scott probably wasn't hoping for.
The scene is when David teaches Walter how to play the flute which serves to highlight the creativity of the former and the efficiency of the latter. But in order to guide him with the instrument, Fassbender delivers the unfortunate line, 'I'll do the fingering.'
The line has led to immature laughter from audiences everywhere and washes away any meaning it's meant to convey. To make things clear, the homoerotic undertones aren't the problem as the Alien franchise has always had a sexual subtext. The problem, rather, is the line that is more fitting with an Austin Powers movie.
It's a shame too because the sequence is meant to illustrate the differences between the two characters with Fassbender doing well with the dual roles. But the actor, despite his efforts, just can't save the line, 'I'll do the fingering.'
