10 MORE Times The MCU Betrayed Your Trust

1. Monica's Aerospace Engineer (WandaVision)

In the first list of occasions the MCU broke your trust published by WhatCulture, the horrendous trolling of casting Evan Peters as Ralph Bohner was detailed, but this wasn’t the only time WandaVision toyed with the emotions of viewers watching. With the weekly episodic release format that was new to the MCU, it gave fans the chance to theorise like never before.

This, and the mysterious nature of the show itself gave more than a few opportunities for fans to get excited, in particular something that Monica Rambeau said set people off. When discussing how to get back through Wanda’s hex, Monica, Jimmy, and Darcy discussed a bespoke vehicle to pass through the magic. The former mentioned an aerospace engineer she knew that could help, and the internet went crazy.

Surely this had to be the first MCU introduction of the Fantastic Four, right? An aerospace engineer, related to SWORD, an organisation that had already mastered space travel? Were we getting Reed Richards or Sue Storm? Could it have even been Riri Williams, or Phastos?

The answer was none of the above. After weeks of speculation surrounding the mysterious engineer, it turned out that the tease meant absolutely nothing, and the engineer themselves were completely inconsequential to the story or the MCU on the whole. How disappointing.
