With the absolute disaster that was Josh Trank's last attempt at re-envisioning Marvel's First Family on the big-screen fresh in both fans of the super-team and no doubt Kevin Feige's mind, you can understand why Marvel Studios would be a little cautious heading into their own take on the iconic set of heroes.
So, it made it all the sense in the world to attach MCU Spider-Man director Jon Watts to the incoming high-pressure project on the back of expertly guiding Tom Holland's Peter Parker through a trilogy of crowd-pleasing flicks that helped successfully reimagine Spidey as a youngster trying to earn his stripes as an Avenger in-between classes.
But the hopes of Watts going two-for-two in putting a new spin on a corner of the Marvel world that has already seen multiple different cinematic adaptations were ultimately dashed as he stepped away from the incoming Phase 6 epic earlier this year.
WandaVision director Matt Shakman now has the unenviable task of stepping up to the all important Fantastic plate, with many fans already feeling a touch concerned over the lack of concrete casting news for the vital MCU foursome and frustrated about the idea of John Krasinski's short-lived introduction as Mr. Fantastic in Multiverse of Madness earlier this year turning out to be little more than a knowing nod to a long-time fan-casting.
