10 Most Chilling Games In Horror Movies
2. Escape Room - Play Or Die (2019)
Ultra-stylish, low budget Belgian horror Play Or Die (based on Franck Thilliez’s acclaimed novel, Puzzle) comes to us courtesy of director and co-writer Jacques Kluger.
The premise sees former couple Lucas (Charley Palmer Rothwell) and Chloé (Roxane Mesquida), who both share a passionate interest in games, join forces to participate in an exclusive escape room experience known as Paranoia. After solving a riddle to uncover where the game is being held, they join other hopefuls in an abandoned mental hospital to seize their chance of winning a large cash prize.
From here, the contestants are met with a series of increasingly taxing puzzle rooms designed to put more than just their wits to the test as an unseen presence watches their progress and instructs them through a speaker system. As the film’s title suggests, losing one of these challenges will cost them their life.
Complete with imaginatively gruesome puzzles and impressive gore effects, all of which is presented in a delightfully pulpy style, Play Or Die is an atmospheric and intoxicatingly bloody romp that’s far more entertaining than its Saw meets Escape Room premise would suggest.
