10 Most Delayed Films Ever

1. The Thief And The Cobbler (28 Years)

Miramax/Lionsgate

It took 28 years for The Thief and the Cobbler to be released, meaning it was in development longer than any movie in history. When the director, Richard Williams prepared his passion project, he adamantly believed it would become the greatest animation of all time. This may be a bold statement but Williams was truly gifted as an animator. After all, he was the animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit!

Sadly, talent alone doesn't always make a film come together. After he failed to secure funds from investors, Williams financed the movie himself. By 1988, Warner Bros. got impatient and took over the project but later abandoned it. The film was then taken over by a producer called Fred Calvert who released in 1993.

Unfortunately, Williams' magnum opus was torn apart by critics and only managed to recouped 1% of its budget. Williams was so heartbroken, he refused to talk about The Thief and the Cobbler ever again. When he attended lectures, he removed audience members if they brought his film up. Although Williams never saw the movie, his son watched it and told his father, "If I ever want to jump off a bridge then I should take a look."
