10 Most Depressing Things About Justice League
6. Superman's Resurrection Is Problematic
The inevitable return of Superman poses a problem for Zack Snyder, narratively speaking, and not just because it's already bleeding obvious that he's coming back.
Justice League must reintegrate Supes in a surprising, meaningful way, but that may be impossible after the damage the previous films have done - literally and figuratively.
Man of Steel and Batman V Superman gave us little reason to care about Kal-El, beyond our existing love for the character. It's difficult to root for a hero who smashes through a city block with little regard for the collateral damage, so his comeback is unlikely to stir up the required pathos.
Sure, we're intrigued to see how Snyder has chosen to go about the character's resurrection, but rumours that Supes may be coming back evil are cause for concern.
It's debatable whether Justice League has enough runtime to bring the Man of Steel back in a bad guy capacity and redeem him in time for the final battle, given that there are so many other characters to flesh out.
But our gravest concern is that the mistakes of old will catch up with the DC Extended Universe and the big reveal will lack the emotional punch it deserves.
