10 Most Distracting Cameos In 21st Century Films

6. Andy Garcia - Passengers

Passengers, the Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence vehicle, was a sci-fi film which had an interesting premise but failed to translate its potential to the big screen. Despite being a sprawling sci-fi epic, throughout the duration of the film there are only four actors we see on screen: Pratt, Lawrence, Michael Sheen and Lawrence Fishburne.

However, the fifth billed name is arguably the most renowned actor in the film: Andy Garcia. This makes the decision to give the Oscar-nominated actor who plays the ship's captain in a 15-second cameo a distracting and bizarre choice. The actor who is best known for his roles in The Godfather Part III, the Ocean's Eleven trilogy and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again appears in one of the last frames of the movie looking wordlessly around the ship which is now submerged in trees and animals.

The big question many were left with as the credits rolled was not a philosophical one about humanity's future as the director intended but asking why the hell did they hire Andy Garcia for a 15 second non-speaking role? According to the screenwriter there was more material filmed with Garcia's Captain Norris but even in these extra scenes Garcia was still apparently given no lines!

An avid cinephile, love Trainspotting (the film, not the hobby), like watching bad films ironically (The Room, Cats) and hate my over-reliance on brackets (they’re handy for a quick aside though).
