10 Most Divisive Movies Of 2016
4. Personal Shopper
Like The Neon Demon, French critic-turned-director Olivier Assayas’ new movie was met with both boos and a standing ovation at its Cannes premiere.
Sitting somewhere between supernatural horror, psychological thriller and character
study, the genre-bending Personal Shopper is the second time Assayas has
collaborated with star Kristen Stewart after 2014’s critically acclaimed Clouds
of Sils Maria and despite its Cannes naysayers, the movie went on to scoop a
Palme d’Or nomination and the Best Director Award for Assayas.
It’s not due out for general release until March so us mere mortal moviegoers have a little more time to wait to see what the fuss is all about, but rumour has it that it’s the kind of infuriatingly ambiguous film that’ll likely be as divisive amongst audiences as it was amongst the Cannes Festival elite.
