10 Most Divisive Movies Of 2019
6. It Chapter Two
Though 2017's It was warmly embraced by both genre fans and more casual audiences, the recent sequel proved decidedly more polarising among all kinds of viewers.
In almost equal measure, It Chapter Two is a pros and cons list of what happens when studios let a talented filmmaker off the leash, because as much as the film feels like director Andy Muschietti's full-fat vision, it's also ultimately a self-indulgent slog.
Many praised Muschietti for daring to incorporate many of the nuttier ideas from Stephen King's novel, and the performances from the ensemble cast - especially Bill Hader - were widely lauded.
However, the film's 169-minute runtime was a common sticking point, as well as its more tame and repetitive array of scares compared to the original.
It Chapter Two ended up grossing "only" $468.9 million worldwide, a fairly steep drop from the first, which in conjunction with its more tepid critical reception, typifies just how pointedly viewers were split on the film.
