1. Tenet

Lauded by many critics as a classic Christopher Nolan film which successfully explored time inversion, Tenet was disregarded by just as many for being a convoluted mess that showed little regard for ensuring the audience were following along.

Nolan's films are generally beloved by critics and audiences for managing to perfectly balance thought-provoking themes with crowd-pleasing action within a blockbuster format as seen in the likes of Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy. However, his stories have received criticism for their exposition-heavy (and sometimes inaudible) dialogue and lack of developed female characters who often die to motivate the male protagonist.

Tenet took this to a whole new level with its dialogue which relentlessly attempted to explain time inversion to a baffled audience alongside a half-baked female character whose whole story revolved around her abusive husband. While generally receiving positive reviews the critics were not quite as enthusiastic about Nolan's latest film as his previous endeavours which were often declared masterpieces and nominated for Oscars.

Audiences seemed to be just as mixed with some embracing the puzzling story while others claiming it did not attempt to allow an audience to follow along throughout any of its runtime.

An avid cinephile, love Trainspotting (the film, not the hobby), like watching bad films ironically (The Room, Cats) and hate my over-reliance on brackets (they’re handy for a quick aside though).
