10 Most Emotional Avengers: Endgame Moments
3. Tony Stark's Death
If there was ever a death the Russo's could have pulled out of the bag that would tear an audience's heart in two, it was this one. Tony Stark's involvement in the MCU as we know it is absolutely intrinsic to it existing in the first place, the original superhero to step out into the limelight and pave the way for our cinematic faves over 10 long years ago.
Stark meets his end by saving life as we know it, as is only right, by taking the infinity stones and showing Thanos what it's like to be clicked into dust. The Russo's play out the similarities they had seeded between Thanos's determined, calculated approach to destroying the universe at any cost with Tony's need to save it no matter what he loses along the way - of course ending in the ultimate sacrifice, as it always had to, really.
Tony dying marks the end of an era, and beautifully signs off on the 11 years of time we got to spend with the sassy billionaire along the way. That doesn't stop it being one of the most painful and heartfelt deaths of a fictional character we've felt in a long, long time though. It's Mr Stark that doesn't feel so good now.
Too soon.
