7. The Dying (Practical) Apatosaurus - Jurassic World
What is it with Apatosauruses not being able to make it through to the end of a damn movie? Are they the Sean Beans of the dinosaur world? Do they secretly harbor suicidal tendencies? There must be an explanation out there somewhere. Unfortunately, the explanation Jurassic World provides is a vague and unsatisfying one (they're killed for sport by the hybrid dinosaur). When Owen and Claire discover the first fallen Apatosaurus, severely injured and wheezing with agony, it just doesn't feel right. There's so much pain in those practical eyes. And there's nothing they can do to help it. They can only sit by its side and pet its head, hoping to add some small level of comfort until the dinosaur passes on. It's exactly the way a person would treat a pet in their finals moments. At least, despite the anguish this poor thing felt, it didn't have to die alone. Yes, there's obviously a much more brutal and graphic death scene that involves a human female in Jurassic World, but in terms of sheer gut-punch effect, that can't even hold a candle to the death of this poor, innocent dinosaur.
