10 Most Evil Characters In The Lord Of The Rings

3. The Witch-King Of Angmar

The Lord of the Rings the Mouth Of Sauron
New Line Cinema

When it came to formidable foes, no one rivalled the Witch-king. He was the Lord of the Nazgûl and the most powerful servant of Sauron. Like many of the servants evil, his origins are shrouded in mystery, but it's known he was once a great king of men. This likely meant he was one of the Númenóreans, as they were the most powerful of all the races of man.

He entered the service of Sauron during the Second Age of Middle-earth, when Sauron gifted nine Rings of Power to nine mortal kings. Eventually he became consumed by the Dark Lord's evil and lost all will of his own. After the Dark Lord's defeat during the War of the Last Alliance, the Lord of the Nazgûl lost his physical form until Sauron himself eventually returned. He took refuge in the North of Middle-earth where he established the Kingdom of Angmar. It was here that he was given the name Witch-king.

It's more than likely we will see the Witch-king and his fellow Ringwraiths in the upcoming series, The Rings of Power. Perhaps we'll finally learn his true origin.
